Substiute Cafeteria - Food Service Worker

 

Position Function:

Under the direct supervision of the Cafeteria Manager, Cafeteria Assistant Manager, Principal, and Director of Support Services, performs all duties of the cafeteria food service worker.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Knows and understands all cafeteria tasks
  • Recognizes and understands all VDH requirements and regulations
  • Holds or be willing to obtain ServeSafe Food Handler Certification
  • Prepares and serves meals to students and staff
  • Appropriately interact with students and staff
  • Routine cleaning within the kitchen and cafeteria
  • Familiarity with and ability to successfully implement HACCP

Additional Duties:

  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.

Equipment

Uses basic kitchen equipment, slicer, dishwasher, etc.  

 

Safety Requirements

Follows all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing the proper use of kitchen equipment used in the performance of duties.  

Wears appropriate safety gear, including masks and gloves.

Must comply with school divison's chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to follow oral or written work orders from supervisor, and to coordinate work with principal and others.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to describe orally or in writing the preparation of meals, cleaning, maintenance or repair problems as needed.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure.
  • Ability to perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Works in school cafeteria and school building environments.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals.

Qualifications Profile:

  • Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
  • High School Diploma or completion of sufficient education to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • Previous experience in food service desirable.
