Substitute Teacher

 

Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the building principal, position is responsible for teaching the assigned subject and enabling each student to pursue his/her education in the absence of the regular teacher

 

Essential Functions

  • Reports to the designated individual upon arrival at the school. 
  • Reviews with the designated school representative the lesson plans and schedules to be followed during the school day. 
  • Maintains the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which assigned. 
  • Teaches the lesson plans outlined by the regular classroom teacher. 
  • Assumes responsibility for overseeing pupil behavior in class, during lunch and in other activity periods. 
  • Maintains maximum supervision of assigned students at all times. 
  • Reports in writing on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day. 
  • Follows all policies, rules and procedures. 
  • Remains in the building during the hours assigned as a Substitute. 
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities. 

Additional Duties

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Equipment

Uses standard office equipment such as computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.

 

Travel Requirements

Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

  • Ability to use computers and software applications as needed.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards

Works in standard office and school building environments.

                

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Possess a high school diploma or a GED
  • Have effective written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff
